Northport Boat Yard was founded in 1965 by Frank and Marilyn Koral. With one storage and service building and a 20-ton overhead hoist, the Korals began their business in the historic village of Northport.
In the late seventies, Les Valmadre purchased the boat yard. He began improvements by increasing the storage capacity and began building sailboats.
In 1984, the Holtz and Thyer families acquired the boat yard. They concentrated on expanding storage to include mast-up outdoor and heated facilities. Over the next 25 years, the boat yard transitioned from storing 85 boats to handling over 350 boats up to 75 feet in length.
In 2010, then owners Don and Rae Ellen Thyer purchased the neighboring Gull Island Marine. The acquisition brought additional heated and unheated storage facilities to the boat yard, as well as a heated workshop for maintenance and repairs.
In 2019, Northport Boat Yard was acquired by Daniel Stern, owner of Kam Marine Ventures, LLC. Though the marina moved on to new owners, its dedicated staff and loyal customers remain the same and the tradition for excellence continues.
Northport Boat Yard is also a proud sponsor of America's Great Loop Cruisers Association (AGLCA) and welcomes many of the AGLCA boats for storage each year.
